Spanish Statement

Hola ! Bienvienidos a nuestro colegio !

At Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School, we are proud to be a centre of excellence for Spanish. We value the role of Modern Foreign Languages in the curriculum and Spanish is taught throughout the school, from Nursery to Year 6.

The new National Curriculum states that a high-quality languages education should foster pupils' curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. We are fortunate to have experienced native Spanish language assistants teaching our children and in Key Stage 2, where modern foreign languages (MFL) are a statutory part of the new 2014 language curriculum, children are taught a second lesson (or short follow up activities) by their class teacher.

A range of teaching strategies, including songs, games and vocabulary development allow all children the opportunity to enhance their learning. Children are given opportunities to speak, listen, read and write in a range of situations, depending on their level of Spanish. Spanish is taught in a fun engaging way, which allows every child to access a foreign language curriculum.

In developing our new curriculum, we are always looking for ways to incorporate Spanish in other subjects such as Art and Geography as we try to value the role that it plays in our world.

We believe that by giving all our children opportunities to learn a modern foreign language, we are supporting them to become fully equipped for the wider world as they progress through each key stage, developing skills which build on what they have already learnt.

Muchas gracias.
